都知道保时捷911历史很悠久，而且具有很多细分性能型号，而且在80年代还曾经涉足拉力赛。为了在比赛中取得竞争力，保时捷打造出极度轻量化的911 Safari车型。

这款名为911 SC/RS（Super Carrera Renn Sport）的车型在1984年推出，基于911 SC再度赛化，限量打造20辆。采用了玻璃纤维打造的保险杠、铝合金车身、超薄玻璃、简化内饰进行减重，就连金属车标都被取消，比普通SC版减重约200公斤，仅960公斤。

为了再节省140公斤，舍弃了3.2升发动机，而采用911 SC的3.0 升水平对置六缸自然吸气发动机，更换压缩比更高的锻造活塞、高角度凸轮轴、机械燃油喷射系统和935的缸盖，动力从201匹提升到252匹，赛车版更达到280马力。优秀的推重比让911 SC/RS能在5秒内完成百公里加速，与当时911 Turbo相当。
